Captain Russ Beyer
Owner and Head Instructor
Our owner and head instructor, Captain Russ Beyer, is the heart and soul of Miami Sailing School™ and brings a wealth of knowledge to the helm. With over three decades of senior leadership experience across Fortune 100, high-growth, and start-up companies, he has successfully coached numerous teams and individuals in achieving their goals. He holds an MBA, a U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s License, and is a Certified American Sailing Instructor.
In recognition of his commitment to sailing education, Captain Russ was named a 2025 American Sailing Outstanding Instructor, an honor awarded to the top 1% of active-status ASA instructors based on verified student evaluations. His transition from the corporate world to the sea was driven by his deep-rooted passion for sailing, which began at an early age.
Captain Russ’s fascination with the wind and currents has propelled him to master various sailing techniques, yacht design, and boat maintenance. His expertise encompasses both monohull and catamaran yachts, with his sailing adventures spanning the picturesque waters of the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, South Florida, and the Bahamas.
While he enjoys the thrill of spontaneous races, Captain Russ’s true joy lies in cruising. As a Certified American Sailing Instructor and 2025 American Sailing Outstanding Instructor, he imparts his extensive knowledge and passion for sailing on Biscayne Bay, encouraging students to fully immerse themselves in the art of sailing while building confidence, seamanship, and a lifelong appreciation for the water. When not teaching or guiding charters, Captain Russ can be found enjoying his own cruising adventures or working as a licensed yacht broker in Florida.
